The Best Restaurants in Portland, Maine

The Best Restaurants in Portland, Maine

Having been reviewed by Conde Nast Traveler, and being named Bon Appetite’s Food City of the Year in 2018 certainly put Portland, Maine on the map as the perfect destination for foodies across the US and beyond. There is no shortage of incredible restaurants, bakeries and cocktail bars to explore while in Portland. We have identified five of the best restaurants that are certainly worth a visit during your stay.

Street & Company

For over 30 years, Street & Co. has served the Old Port with Mediterranean, bistro-style seafood featuring fresh, local fish and organic ingredients. It is no surprise that this restaurant is amongst the best in Portland, Maine. Their personalized wine list serves to complement each delicious dish. The cobble stoned Wharf Street and original brick facade provides a truly authentic New England experience.

Central Provisions

Known for their small plates and craft cocktails, Central Provisions continues to be a popular lunch and dinner destination for those visiting Portland Maine. In the 1800’s, this historic building was the exact location where The East India Company would unload goods. Current owners, Paige and Christopher Gould have worked to preserve the historic details of this gorgeous building. There is no doubt that the food and drinks are as intricately thought through as the beautifully-designed interiors.

Fore Street

A sister restaurant to the aforementioned Street & Co, Fore Street is known for locally sourced ingredients and hand crafted food and drink. Fore Street has been listed in Gourmet Magazine’s Top 50 Restaurants in the US and has received many notable awards in addition. The menu changes seasonally to truly reflect the taste of Maine.

The Corner Room

Well-known by visitors and Portland locals alike, The Corner Room offers some of the best Italian food Maine has to offer. It is open for brunch, lunch and dinner and reservations are recommended, especially during peak summer and fall months. You can also explore their sister restaurants, The Front Room and The Grill Room for equally incredible dining options in Portland.
